I would draw the line between punk and emo as when you dress like a goth and listen to whiny music then your emo. When you listen to regular punk music that isn't overly formuliac crap then that would be punk.

haha, well, the music has a different sound. it was originally an offspring or whatever of punk, but now it has its own sound.

I actually think that emo has strayed far enough from punk that it should be in it's own category. Emo to me is more alternative then punk. But I haven't listened to enough of the newer emo to judge very well. Embarassed I am just not a big fan of the entire genre that is known as emo.

You should be glad you haven't heard much of the newer EMO, it sounds a lot worse than alturnative so i don't even compare it to alturnative. Todays EMO is just a corporate fad, I've been telling my friends that for a long time now. You know how before EMO alot of kids had to have the skater shoes and clothing and ran around calling themselves S8ter even though they didn't know how to skate. Well those kids switched from skater to EMO. But that could be because kids like me would pick on the spoiled rich kids so they became depressed or some thing... LOl I hope I didn't turn those faggots into EMOs.

The spoiled rich kids all wear lacost, Echo and worst of all G-Unit clothing now. Emo kids are the kids are just the adverage kids who will wear what ever is the new "cool" thing for white suburban kids.

Emo is too emotional, and I don't mean that in a good way. No sir. It's more about "look at me" "my life is horrible" "I need more needles to cut myself"

Punk and Emo are WAYYYY different but for some strange reason always get confused.

the line between emo and punk is for me the second billy talent album. compared to the first one, the just became whining and way too emotional and just forgetting what they did on the album before.

so anything that is more whining than billy talent is emo Smile

A lesson to be learned by all. I would also say if it is as refined as simple plan and is also still uber whiney there is a good chance its emo. But thats just me.

Well, its not only like whinny lyrics. It usualy has a higher voiced singer, screams, and they all tend to dress and sound the same as other bands. Razz
I acualy like Billy Talent though. The first album was a bit emo, and so was the second one. But the first was WAY better, and more fast. The first album has like punk roots in it, ya know? The second one I found had more softer songs, so I was kinda bummed about that.

I noticed this about indie and pop rock. There is a certain formula and all of them have to follow it and not deviate and create something interesting. I am not one for music videos but someone had them on so I watched a few and felt sick because there all the same look and sound. The videos may be different but the artists and sound are the same. I think that emo definitly follows suit with popular music of today that, like kitlo says, sounds the same as other bands.

also, traditionally punk music isn't about love, whereas emo focuses almost singly on heartbreak and how hard their life is.

Note: Emo kids think real highly of them selves. Also what is she talking about, emo kids speaking up?? Never mind she doesn't know what she is talking about. She also claimed emo is hardcore music if you didn't catch that. Another thing, she compared hating emos to hating blacks and gays, but you don't choose to be a nigger or gay like emofags.
I also want to hear your feed back on this because personal I lol'd, am I just a plain out ass hole?

First off emo is not hard-core no matter how you slice it. Next your movie was removed by user so I couldn't see what you were talking about. Also a good show to watch that makes fun of emo ppl is "hope is emo"(well its ok. I haven't watched the newer episodes). Thank for the post and try not to use the word nigger on my forum.
