I have got to say one thing that has been bothering me. Jimmy eat world is alternative and not punk. I don't even know how they could be considered punk. Sugar ray is more punk than Jimmy eat world and that is pretty sad. Also I am surprised that emo isn't necessarily popular bands whinning about how bad it is to be them. It just goes to show you once you think you know something about punk you find an underground movement changing the way punk is played. Thanks for the update on emo. I will check out more of the website when I get time.

Okay, for all those still debating whether or not Emo is punk, all I have to ask is: what is just straight "punk?" Punk, like any other genre of music, has many sub-categories, emo being one of them. It actually stands for emotional punk. It's just another genre, like skate-punk, hardcore-punk, 80's-punk, pop-punk, etc. Whether you like it or not, it is a sub-genre. What you have to ask yourself is not if you like it, but do you like this one particular band. It doesn't really matter how you categorize it. As for P4P and emo, I would say it is the discretion of Mr. Admin and his listener polls as to what should be played. You can't say no emo, that would get rid of many good "punk" bands. For example, I think I have heard some Alkaline Trio, which I would consider emo, and would be really disappointed if it were no longer on P4P just beacuse people don't want "emo" being played.
I definitly agree that saying punk is only this one type of music is limiting the genre. I love hard-core punk and to throw it in with metal because it doesn't sound like standard punk would be fucking stupid. The only reason I don't consider most popular emo, punk, is because it doesn't have the energy of standard punk, it is overly formulaic and doesn't present a "punk like" message. Some bands that are emo do occasionally put out good songs. If I put those songs on punk4punks it is probably because it has good energy and it is a good song. Although if any of my listeners do not like a song being played, please say so, so that I can take it out of the rotation. Unless of course I really like the song.

I acualy like some emo bands. Like Emanuel, some of From First To Last and Silverstein. Lots of emo isn't punk for the reasons Admin said. But theres a song by Sex Pistols called "No Feelings". And emo is filled with alot of feelings. Think about that one.

I also like Emanuel and Silverstein. I am not sure about Silversteins new music but some of the old music is good to listen to. I wouldn't put Silverstein on my station because of the lack of energy in his music. Thanks for the posts.

Emo is definitely not punk. Emos are just a bunch of wannabes that wish they were punks or metalheads and they are pussies looking for attention. Punk music is about partying and having a good time, not being a little fucking bitch.
Wow, I think we need to take it back a notch and try not to sound to much like an elitist. You may hate the music just try not to hate the people(Unless they are an asshole) because they could always turn out to be normal punks in the future when emo becomes less popular.
Just a thought,
